For those of you with sturdy memories, Euron has been promised to marry Cersei once they win the Iron Throne, but he wishes to start their relationship with sex. Cersei (Lena Headey) is still standing firm on her assertion that she shall send no Lannister forces northwards to aid Dany (Emilia Clarke) and Jon against the White Walkers even though the Wall has now fallen, while Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Askbæk) arrives with Yara (Gemma Whelan) as his prisoner. Let’s start with the easier of the two locales: King’s Landing.

What’s more, pretty much all of the characters in the series are confined to these two locations. The wall is crumbling, with ice spreading southwards towards both Winterfell and King’s Landing – and these are the only two locations that we see in the opening, which is the first time I can recall that happening. Right from the beginning credits, you can tell that the war is almost at its end. Of course, while the dramatic revelation that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is a Targaryen have been buzzing around our brains since August 2017, the only characters currently in the know when our episode begins are Samwell (John Bradley) and Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright). It’s been almost two years since we last saw these characters on screen, and it’s tough in a way to remember the interactions that have happened or have merely existed in our heads. Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Liam Cunningham, Nathalie Emmanuel, Alfie Allen, John Bradley, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Gwendoline Christie, Conleth Hill, Rory McCann, Jerome Flynn, Kristofer Hivju, Joe Dempsie, Jacob Anderson & Iain Glen Tune in to Digital Spy's Game of Thrones livestreams on Monday evenings, straight after each episode, on Instagram and Facebook.

Game of Thrones season 8 airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. I mean, to be honest, I'm not even sure it is a side. Will I ever be able to shake the sight of a man with an axe protruding out of his forehead from my memory? Probably not. Will I be tuning into episode two? Quite possibly.

"How does he sleep with no eyelids?" one mused about someone who had his face burnt off by a dragon. I appreciate this rules out no-one apart from Bran. (Weirdly, the scene that seemed most relatable and human was when a trio of naked women were gossiping about dragons whilst – side-eye emoji – 'working' with a guy. Of course they are, because even I, as a viewer of this show for all of 51 minutes, have already ascertained that no-one can actually be happy for longer than about three scenes before something goes horribly wrong. This is all very unfortunate because by the end of the episode, it's been revealed that – spoiler alert – they're actually related. This I know because they get a bit jiggy in front of a dragon, which fixes Snow with a steely gaze mid-embrace.

but then he cried.Īnyway: Jon Snow and Daenerys (had to Google how to spell all of those names, I even spelt Jon wrong, FFS) are a couple!

I know they say, 'It's grim up north', but I think I counted two smiles throughout the whole episode. Whether they're trudging endlessly through snow or grimly processioning on horses through the village (I spotted that girl from Hollyoaks! Who knew?), or furious chats in shadowy rooms, it's all just so relentlessly glum. My second observation: a lot of this programme is quite miserable, isn’t it?
